Enjoy a comfortable family atmosphere at our 1835 farmhouse on 12 acres in the north village of this quiet Maine town.

In the summer, our old fashioned front porch is shaded and cool for relaxing with the morning paper and coffee. Enjoy breakfast on the deck overlooking the waterfall and mill pond complete with ducks and beaver.

Horses can always be found running in our fields and you can stroll down our woodland nature trail. We also have a canoe for treks down the river that borders the farm. The river empties into Damariscotta Lake, which offers great fishing, water skiing and sailing. A llama farm nearby offers trekking.

In the winter, have your breakfast by the cookstove. You can cross country ski right from our back door, through woodland trails and meadows or down the river to the lake. There's also ice skating on the mill pond.

The Jefferson House is just ½ hour from the beautiful Maine coast and is ideally located for day trips to Augusta, the state capitol; Freeport, the home of L.L. Bean; and Camden, the beautiful little town where the tall ships are berthed.

Down the St. George Peninsula are quaint towns such as Spruce Head, Tenants Harbor, and Port Clyde, all set amidst breathtaking views of sparkling ocean and pine clad shores. Inns, restaurants, museums, galleries, gift and antique shops can be found in many of these towns. Boat trips to watch whales or to visit Monhegan Island are available.

To appreciate the area's natural beauty, head to Dodge Point, a beautiful preserve on the Damariscotta River, just 20 minute's ride from the Jefferson House. There are trails for quiet walks as well as places to picnic. Travel down the eastern side of the Damariscotta River to small fishing harbors and villages such as New Harbor and Round Pond. You can't leave the area without a visit to Pemaquid Point, the picturesque lighthouse and museum. Here, the dramatic rock promontory will be a treat for your camera.

This is just an example of what you can expect to find and do while you stay with us at the Jefferson House. Reservations can be made by telephone or e-mail. Please ask about special rates for extended visits. Cash, personal checks or travelers checks are accepted.
